The
lots were bedded with sand and straw at the 2003 Bieber Mature Cowherd
Dispersal, Saturday, November 15, 2003. Rain-fall the day before
made viewing cattle a bit mucky, but cattlemen and women from 21
different states and Canada, pulled on their overshoes to view Red
Angus and commercial Red Angus females.
Topping
the sale was a Lot 83. Bieber Sirena 6708, sold to the Steve Bowden
Family, WI, and Johnson Red Angus, IL, for $8,000. Bieber Sirena
6708 is the dam of legendary herd sires Bieber Top Money and Bieber
Make Mimi, who are both in Accelerated Genetics line-up. She sold
safe in calf to Bieber Hot Rock 7946.
Also in the top end of the bred cows was Lot 19,
Bieber Lass 6646 sold to Arrowhead Ranch, OK, for $4,000. She sold
safe in calf to Bieber Montoya 8237. Lot 2, Bieber Sheba 5537, safe
in calf to GMRA Vermillion 796, sold for $4,000 to Hust Cattle Company,
KY. Tri R Cattle of Lincoln, NE purchased Lot 4, Bieber Lass 5627,
safe in calf to MRM Lancer 916, for $4,000. 72 March-April calving
cows were sold averaging $1960. 23 May-June calving cows were sold
averaging $1826.
Fall calving pairs were sold, with Lot 181 topping
the sale, selling to Fick Red Angus of Inman, NE, for $1300. She
sold with a heifer calf at side, sired by Lonk Canyon Reb. 3 fall
calving pairs were sold averaging $1300.
In
the bred heifer section of Bieber's Mature Cowherd Dispersal, a
number of elite lots were available for potential buyers. Of these
heifers, Lot 37, Bieber Moon Fork 8801, rose to the top, selling
for $3,500 to Kal Kota Ranch of Steele, ND. She sold safe in calf
to Brown Vacation H7106. Sonstegard Cattle Company of Montevideo,
MN snatched up Lot 48, Bieber Ladyluck 8840, for $3,2000. She sold
safe in calf to Buffalo Creek Romeo L081. Rounding out the top three
was Lot 45, Bieber Queen 8950, sold to 3J Farms of Ravina, OK for
$2,800, safe in calf to Buffalo Creek Romeo L081. 19 bred heifers
averaged $2,376.
Several fancy heifer calves, halter broke to tie, found a new home
with many buyers. Lot 31, Bieber Toryanna 9213, was the high selling
heifer. Her new home is with Walnut Springs Farm, Hopkins, MI, for
$3,100. Coming in a close second was Lot 78, Bieber Chic 9400, selling
to Hansen Ranch, Faulkton, SD for $3,000. Dan Braesch of Herman,
NE took home Lot 130, Bieber Ladyluck 9222 for $1,900. 19 open heifers
sold averaging 1,468.

commercial bred heifers were consigned to the sale from Wolff Farms,
Long Lake, SD, KNK Ranch, Eureka, SD, and Bieber Red Angus Ranch,
Leola, SD. 2 consignments from Wolff Farms topped the sale, fetching
$1,300, purchased by A.R. Sawyer of Allison, IA. KNK Ranch's consignment
of 10 heifers brought $1,200 all going to Schroeder Brothers Red
Angus of Hecla, SD. 29 commercial heifers averaged $1,157.
Volume buyers of seedstock were Tom Ryckman of Pollock, SD with
10 head. Milton and Peggy Ustad of Beresford, SD came in next with
8 head purchased. Vulture Acres Reds, Sandra and Doug Martsching
also purchased in volume with 6 head. Jeff Earles, 3-J Farms, of
Ravina, OK was the volume purchaser of bred heifers with 6 head.
In the commercial side, Schroeder Brothers of Hecla, SD were volume
buyers with 20 head.
